Fair Work Convention welcomes Fair Work First Evaluation

The Fair Work Convention welcomes the publication of the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First Policy Evaluation. The evaluation finds that Fair Work First is helping to drive the adoption of fair work practices across Scotland, delivering positive impacts for both employers and workers, while identifying areas where implementation can be strengthened.

The findings reinforce the value of using public sector funding and procurement to promote fair work practices, including effective voice and payment of at least the real Living Wage. They also highlight opportunities to strengthen the impact of fair work conditionality and ensure it is applied consistently and effectively across public spending.

The Convention believes the evaluation provides a strong foundation for the next phase of Fair Work First. As Scotland seeks to lead globally on fair work, it is essential that all public money contributes to this ambition and supports better outcomes for workers, employers and communities.

We welcome this growing evidence base and look forward to working with the Scottish Government to build on the evaluation’s findings, improve the effectiveness of fair work conditionality within public spending and procurement, and ensure public investment is used to advance fair work across Scotland.
