Fair Work Convention sets out its priorities ahead of Scotland’s 2026 election

The Fair Work Convention has unveiled its asks  for Scotland’s fair work agenda ahead of the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections. It is calling on the next Scottish Government to put fair work at the heart of its economic strategy and commit to making Scotland a global leader in fair work practice.

With the 2026 election approaching and new employment legislation coming into force, the Convention says Scotland has a pivotal opportunity to strengthen job quality, boost collective voice and support a more productive, innovative and fair economy.

Co‑Chairs Professor Patricia Findlay and Chris Westcott stress that fair work is essential to tackling inequality, supporting a Just Transition and driving long‑term prosperity.

The Convention urges ministers to strengthen enforcement, expand sectoral bargaining, starting with enacting a new sectoral agreement for social care in 2026, and ensure public spending consistently supports fair work.
